Facial mesotherapy in Valencia

Facial mesotherapy uses superficial microinjections to improve skin quality, hydration and overall appearance. It aims to address dullness, dehydration or uneven texture, rather than change features or add volume.

At dermaMER, we regard it as a complementary treatment. Different formulations may be used according to the goal, including non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid and, in selected patients, polynucleotides or platelet-rich plasma (PRP). For patients with melasma, we may also incorporate brightening or depigmenting mesotherapy as support within comprehensive medical care, always complementing topical or oral treatment prescribed by the dermatologist and strict medically guided sun protection, never replacing these foundations.

We do not offer mesotherapy as a standalone replacement for more intensive technologies. Its main value is integration into a skin-quality plan, combined or sequenced with in-clinic skincare treatments, peels, microneedling, IPL or laser, according to individual skin needs.

What it is and what is injected

Mesotherapy describes the delivery of treatment through superficial microinjections, rather than a specific product. Two treatments called «mesotherapy» may therefore differ greatly.

Depending on the goal and skin characteristics, options include:

  • Non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid, mainly targeting hydration and skin quality rather than a filler’s structural effect.
  • Polynucleotides, used within skin-quality protocols for selected patients.
  • Platelet-rich plasma (PRP), obtained from the patient’s own blood and used as an autologous option within selected treatment plans.

Selection depends on the intended improvement and each product’s characteristics, rather than the treatment’s commercial name. We only use formulations whose composition, sterility, origin and use we can verify.

Choosing the formulation

Mesotherapy describes a technique rather than a product: formulation follows the intended improvement.

Superficial microinjections

The area is cleaned and disinfected, then multiple superficial microinjections are given.

Temporary effects

Small papules, redness or bruising may remain afterwards, generally temporarily.

Part of a combined plan

Timing relative to microneedling, peels, IPL or laser is chosen without a fixed schedule.

What it is used for

Mesotherapy mainly suits patients seeking to improve overall skin quality: hydration, texture, dullness and superficial fine lines. It may be considered for the face, neck, décolletage and other indicated areas.

We do not aim to replace other treatments. Its most useful role is to complement them.

After IPL or lasertreatment, it may form part of a plan targeting hydration and skin quality. It may also be combined or sequenced with microneedling, peels and other in-clinic treatments, always allowing appropriate recovery time for each procedure.

For melasma, we may incorporate brightening or depigmenting mesotherapy as supportive treatment within comprehensive medical care. It never replaces medical treatment prescribed by the dermatologist, whether topical or oral, or strict medically guided sun protection, the foundations of melasma control. Mesotherapy is added when indicated, once underlying treatment is established and outside periods of inflammation or active flare-ups.

Mesotherapy alone does not resolve volume loss, movement-related wrinkles, deep scars, specific pigmentation or laxity. In these cases, each technique has a specific role within the plan.

Treatment and number of sessions

After assessing skin and selecting the product, the area is cleaned and disinfected and multiple superficial microinjections performed.

The procedure varies according to non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid, polynucleotides or PRP use and the treated area. Small papules, redness, swelling or bruising may remain, generally temporarily.

Session numbers and intervals are individualised. We prefer to design a combined skin-quality plan and decide when mesotherapy makes sense relative to other treatments, rather than repeat sessions on a fixed calendar.

Results, duration and limitations

The aim is gradual improvement in skin quality, particularly hydration, texture and overall appearance. Change is deliberately subtler than that sought with laser, filler or surgery.

This is not a disadvantage when properly indicated. Mesotherapy serves a different role: addressing skin quality through a relatively straightforward intervention, combined with procedures targeting pigment, vessels, scars, wrinkles or deeper remodelling.

Results and duration depend on formulation, skin and the rest of the treatment plan.

What it cannot do

Mesotherapy does not replace a hyaluronic acid filler when volume restoration is needed, botulinum toxin for certain expression lines, or laser for more intensive skin remodelling.

Nor is it the main treatment for melasma — where brightening mesotherapy solely supports topical or oral medical treatment and sun protection— solar lentigines, vascular rosacea, deep scars or marked laxity.

We therefore do not present it as a standalone solution for every sign of ageing. We use it as one part of a broader skincare and treatment programme.

Risks and contraindications

Pain, visible papules, redness, swelling, bruising and small temporary irregularities are common.

It should be postponed during pregnancy and breastfeeding and with infection, herpes or active inflammation. Anticoagulants increase bruising but must not be stopped without the prescriber’s advice.

Your first facial mesotherapy consultation at dermaMER

At the first consultation, we assess the skin aspects you want to improve and, above all, which other treatments make sense alongside mesotherapy.

We may suggest it alongside in-clinic skincare, microneedling, peels, IPL or laser, or within a gradual skin-quality programme. We assess the appropriate formulation, including non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid, polynucleotides or PRP.

We also explain reasonable expectations and concerns needing another technique. We never inject a formulation whose composition, sterility or origin we cannot verify.

It is part of our aesthetic medicine and laser service in Valencia, available in Spanish, English and Italian. As a cosmetic treatment, it is not usually covered by health insurance policies and is paid for separately. A registered dermatologist recommends and performs it, with a quote at assessment. You can check our indicative prices on the Fees page.

You can meet the medical team before your visit.

Frequently asked questions about facial mesotherapy

What results can I expect?

Gradual improvement in hydration, texture and overall skin quality. We do not aim for a filler’s structural change or laser-level remodelling.

What can be used in mesotherapy?

This depends on the goal. Options include non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid, polynucleotides and platelet-rich plasma (PRP). They are not equivalent and selection is individualised.

Does it hurt?

Many superficial injections cause discomfort. This is managed with cooling, anaesthetic cream or anaesthetic included in the product.

How many sessions are needed?

A common initial regimen is three sessions two to four weeks apart, followed by maintenance. No number suits everyone.

How long does the effect last?

Some improvement may persist for months after the initial course, but duration cannot be promised: it depends on formulation, skin and the rest of the plan.

Can it be combined with laser or other treatments?

Yes. At dermaMER, we mainly offer it as an adjunct within programmes including laser, IPL, peels, microneedling or other in-clinic treatments. Sequence depends on skin and the procedure performed.

How does skin look immediately afterwards, and when can I resume normal life?

Papules or wheals, redness, swelling and some bruising usually resolve within hours or days. Normal activities can resume immediately, but avoid scheduling treatment just before an event.

Can I have it in summer?

Yes, although strict sun protection and avoiding sunlight while redness or bruising remains are advisable.

Does health insurance cover it?

No. Cosmetic treatments are not usually covered by health insurance policies and are paid for separately, with a quote at assessment. If your question concerns another dermatology consultation, check the insurers we work with.
